Digital platform for doing great things in the developing world

Our client

A consultancy focused on increasing the value, impact and sustainability of their clients’ investments in fragile and conflicted overseas territories.

Scenario

Foreign spending programmes primarily aim to tackle global challenges such as health, poverty and conflict. The central challenge was to reduce the time taken to evaluate the efficacy of aid initiatives, and to enable the end client (a government department) to be far more agile in optimising use of resources.

Our client and partner (experts in monitoring, evaluation and learning programmes in developing countries) therefore needed to support their work by providing an easy to use digital platform. The platform needed to produce near real-time, meaningful insights in an easily digestible format.

They needed to reduce or eliminate an over-reliance on spreadsheets, emails and manually curated reports that would not always reach a decision maker within a meaningful timeframe.

The solution

We worked closely as a technical partner with our client to form a formidable and highly capable consortium. Being engaged in the process from an early stage enabled us to develop a deep and comprehensive understanding of the requirements.

We iterated through a number of sprints, to build out a full digital platform which handles everything from raw data collection, through to compiled, actionable reports, and a clear well-signposted dashboard. We also developed a detailed, granular security module, to provide (or deny) the appropriate levels of access to potentially sensitive data, based on user roles.

The platform was built on a blend of cutting-edge web technologies, ensuring a rich and seamless user experience across a range of devices.

The benefits

Previously, reports were lengthy, untimely and difficult to extract actionable data from.

Now, meaningful insight is delivered rapidly and frequently.

Colour-coded indicators clearly highlight the effectiveness of programmes, and it’s easy to differentiate between those with a need for prompt intervention, and those that are comfortably delivering planned benefits.

The department now has a well-embedded digital platform which plays a significant role in improving the lives of people in challenging environments.
